Lessons in Lausanne
Espace Bellefontaine serves two purposes.
It is our base of operations for Naturescapes. These indoor courses are designed to teach specific techniques for plein air painting.
Espace Bellefontaine is an Atelier in its own right. The courses cater for all interests, all levels and are available during the week and at weekends to suit the busiest of schedules.
- There are three main weekly products for Espace Bellefontaine: Bellefontaine, Lunch Break Chill, and Kids/Teens.
For the Bellefontaine product, clients will have access to all the Bellefontaine courses: Freestyle, Body, Techniques, and Lunch Break Chill (two sessions of LBC will count towards 1 session of Bellefontaine).
The Lunch Break Chill can be can be purchased as a stand alone product.
The Kids/Teens product is only for the Kids/Teens courses for young people ages 10-17.
- The weekly classes for Espace Bellefontaine offer three main products: Bellefontaine, Lunch Break Chill, and Kids/Teens.
The Bellefontaine product: Freestyle, Body, Techniques, and Lunch Break Chill (two LBC sessions will count as one Bellefontaine session).
The Lunch Break Chill product: one hour from noon to one o’clock (can be purchased as a single product).
The Kids/Teens product: a course for children and teenagers.
- Weekend workshops in Bellefontaine are priced according to the subject and materials costs and information is provided in advance. Depending on the subject, the workshop may be a full weekend, both Saturday and Sunday, or it may be split into two parts, one on Saturday and one on Sunday, or it may have two 4-hour sessions on Saturday and Sunday. Dates and times will be communicated in advance.

Freestyle
This class is open for total, free creation based on the inspiration of the participant. Even if you have a basic notion of what you want to do, we will help you find what inspires you and give you the materials and teach you the techniques you need to follow your instinct, or or leave you totally free and let you do your own thing! Freestyle is a real moment to disconnect from the day’s stress, unwind and relax, where you lose track of time while letting your inner creative side take over.
Techniques
This class is for those who want to improve their technical skills. We will cover topics among others such as colour theory, perspective, composition, creating volume with line and tone to enable you to build the kind images you’ve always wanted to master.
We will explore a wide variety of techniques to help you find what works for you and makes you feel comfortable making the experience as interesting and exciting as possible.
We will typically spend 3-4 sessions exploring one technique before moving to another. We will revisit techniques previously covered to refresh the memory and consolidate what has been learned and find new applications for them.
We will be using a wide range of drawing, painting, and mixed media techniques to translate three dimensional objects and spaces onto the flat plane of paper and canvas.
Body
If you have a particular affinity for the human form and enjoy drawing its undulating lines and sensuous masses, this course is for you. Whatever your level, we offer in-depth instruction in the various techniques, some academic and some intuitive, for depicting the body in a satisfying way, or if you prefer to work without input, we'll be happy for you to do your thing. You will learn all about how to draw the whole body, hands, feet and portraiture using wet and dry media.
Lunch Break Chill
Sometimes work sucks, and when it does we have the perfect getaway! This is a moment during your work day you can take a break to unplug, get your mind off of stressful email pileups and deadlines, and do something creative! Some people go and do sport on their lunch break, why not do something different? It's a fantastic way to enjoy the process of creating art and focus on something fun and relaxing. Either come with an idea in mind or ask us for inspiring suggestions, we’ll make sure it’s something you can be passionate about. Come join us for a mini vacation and get your creative juices going!
Kids/Teens
Adults may need a break, but let's not forget children and teenagers too! This course will allow them to let their imaginations run wild while learning the practical techniques to make their dreams come true. By providing an environment of discovery for children, this course nurtures the instinctive and creative processes innate in them and seeks to preserve, protect and nurture the seed of artistic creation so that they may grow into fulfilled and creative adults!
Weekend Workshops
We will have a variety of workshops on weekends that focus on a specific subject, medium and/or technique. For example, introductory courses: introduction to oils, pastels, drawing, acrylics, etc. We offer intermediate and advanced courses: deeper practice and mastery of mediums and skill-based learning. The discovery of the plastic possibilities of various materials in an open-ended experimentation offers an intuitive and organic exploration of the creative potential of the imagination.

Mini Seminars
We will be launching a series of mini-seminars with local and international speakers covering a wide range of topics and subjects in art practice, focusing on mediums, techniques, and themes. Speakers who inspire ... Stay tuned!
Vitrine Exhibitions
We have a small, yet lovely vitrine that we use as an exhibition space for artists and our students. It’s not large so come by and have a look at what is possible and let’s see what we can come up with. We welcome inquiries for exhibitions and are happy to communicate our conditions. Let us know!
